Named after a town in Scotland, Inverness sounds somewhat mystical and medieval. And to wander into the residential area imbedded deep in the hills of this wooded hamlet on Tomales Bay is an enchanting experience. Reclusive residents post “Private Property: KEEP OUT” signs to keep tourists at bay. This pretty unincorporated community is on the west side of Tomales Bay near the gateway to the Point Reyes National Seashore. Two years ago, many of the homes and trees were destroyed in a fire that started on Mt. Vision. New homes are being built, but there is still plenty of open space, and the fauna surrounding Inverness is slowly recovering from the disaster.
